Insanity's Child -- Chapter 1

The darkest of shrouds could not compare to the ebony tendrils that fell down her back in feathery pin-straight paths down to her waist, only held back by the simplest of yarns to keep it from flying into the earthy green eyes that stared up at the sky with a sort of uncaring.

Leafy orbs that were set into an all-too pale angular face, the very color seeming to radiate and glow in it's pallor that matched the very glow of the moon. That glow seemed to catch the singular blue streak that ran its way from scalp to tip in the mass of black hair that belonged to this girl.

No, not a girl. Not even a mortal, but in fact, a goddess. One that garbed herself in a modern fashion consisting of a mesh shirt pulled over an almost discoverable tank-top with a pair of jean kapris that were trimmed in the same meshy material. Sandals adorned these feet as well, decorated in little silver and black metal charms of moons and stars.

The tall young woman carried a youth to herself that was near her late teens, but eyes told more of age and the possible wisdom that laid inside her mind. Such of course did not matter to the large truck barreling towards the slender tall young woman.

"HEY! WATCH OUT!" The voice shouted and was followed by the feeling of a force tacking her forward and her form being pulled close into the other one, the pair rolling out of the way of the road and the blaring truck horn.

The other form clutched onto her for a little longer, breathing as if to catch their breath before finally speaking into her neck, "You okay?"

Instead of an answer, the young woman moved and pried his arms off of her and stood up, brushing herself off with a rather disgruntled look, "Honestly? Can you NOT tackle me like some sort of wolf on the hunt?"

The young man that saved her just stared in utter shock before screwing up his face and shouting, "Hey! Is that how you thank someone for saving your life!? Next time go ahead and get hit by the truck! See if I care!"

Eyes rolled as she shook her head, "Well perhaps that is what I was trying to do, but alas, no one wants to end my suffering." The sarcasm was thick in her voice before she added with a lighter tone, "If I see you again, it will frankly be too soon." Following such a statement, she simply started to walk away down the sidewalk before pausing.

"Oh, and you might want to start paying attention to your spirit before she gets any more jealous." Hand raised as she waved him off and continued until she moved to cross the street to head into the colorful array of trees ahead of her.

"But I am not... WAIT. How. You." Eyes grew large as he looked to his spirit then eyes darted back to the young woman before he looked at the spirit again then when he went to finally address the woman she was gone without a trace, "How did she do that? Can't be THAT fast!"

It did not take him long to recover and he just sighed and shrugged, "Come on, Kororo! We gotta get to that party! I cannot wait to eat all that food!" A boyish grin as he looked to the spirit who was pouting at him slightly. "Oh come on! I'll share some of my cake with you?"

The spirit peeked over and after a while she flew forward and pressed a little kiss on the cheek as an acceptance of the apology before they started down towards the part as well. Neither taking much note that it was the same direction that the strange woman from earlier had been heading as well.

Far ahead, Anaia was perched atop a milky beige creature that was massive, the shoulder coming up to a height of about four feet. A thick bushy set of tails danced about as the beast ran, kicking up the fall leaves to leave an illusioned path of fire.

"Come on K'Sune. I want to get there before the little one turns two." The young woman coaxed the creature into moving faster, reaching forward and scratching one of his black tipped ears.

A slight growly noise of pleasure before the creature responded, "But I like to rest! If I don't I could fall apart and be useless to you, M'lady." The voice was light and cheerful, and obviously male.

"You could never be useless to me, my dear friend." A light smile to him as she let her hands sink deep into his fur as she added, "I apologize if I am pushing you. I simply want to get there. Mother had mentioned that he would be there."

"It is fine, Anaia. I am sure he will not be gone from there. Even if he is tolerating that wretch." he offered with a light chuckle that was carried off in the passing air, "Now hold on tight. I will have us there in no time."

----------

"Yoh, rake up the leaves outside. They are all over the yard again. If we are going to have Hana play outside, we don't want him to eat them." The voice called from the kitchen, a tone of demand in the voice that made the male it was directed to, sigh.

"Yes, Anna!" he would call back as he looked about the porch for the rake he had been using just a bit earlier. A wind blew about all of the leaves again and made a mess of the nice pile he had tucked away beside a tree for later jumping in.

Despite Anna claiming she wanted an easier life, it seemed like for him, it wasn't very easy at all.

The voice called from the kitchen again, "Then I want you to take out the trash, set the table, sweep the table, and after the party make sure you run your 40 laps around the neighborhood." Yea, she never really did forgive him for not winning the tournament almost year and a half ago.

His thoughts were dragged in a different direction as he heard the loud cry of the small child and as he turned to go inside and check the young woman's voice responded loudly, "I will get Hana, just do what I asked."

A shake of the head and a sigh, "Yes, Anna." Hands gripped the rake and he started on the list of chores that inevitably would have more added onto it. As the motions began, it stopped just as suddenly as a familiar sight waited for him at the stone arch that laid at the edges of the property.

"Hey, Yoh!" A big grin as he waved and started to approach the young man before adding, "What's up?"

"Nothing much, just doing the chores again." he offered a slight grin, "Want to help?"

A slight blinking before the blue-haired one replied, "Chores? Again? Today? What are you, a slave? You did this yesterday!"

Laughter for a bit before he shivered, "Well, you know how they always come back. So, did you bring a snow storm with you or something? It's cold..."

"I apologize for the sudden change of temperature. We were trying to get here quickly." A voice rang with an unworldly tune behind it as the owner was perched up on the roof with the furry companion beside her.

"Huh?" The voice sounded familiar and sweet to his ears, the dark eyes turned towards the roof and they warmed up, features glowing, "Anaia! It has been a long time!"

Surprise painted Horo's face, "You know that girl?"

"Um... Yea! It was during the tournament!" Yoh offered with a nervous laugh. Eyes flicked back to her as she gave a reminiscent smile in his direction and he could feel himself beginning to form a silly grin.

Horo eyed his friend suspiciously then peered up at Anaia, "Well I guess you did meet me again."

A slight nod as a frown tugged at her lips, "Yes, and as I said, it has been too soon. Anyway, that is not why I am here. Yoh, has anyone else arrived yet before me?"

Head shook as he motioned inside, "No, Horo is one of the first guests. Why do you ask?"

"I would like to see Hao's son." The words were candid and cool, although eyes lit up as she could see confusion fill the poor snow-shaman's eyes.

"Hao's son? Yoh, what is she talking about? The only baby here is Hana!" he blurted out before a sort of realization started picking at his mind. No, it was not possible!

Yoh's eyes dropped to the ground a bit, feeling a lump form his his throat and that looming dread coming about.

"Anaia, I think we ought to go inside and talk."
